Common Mistakes In Research Paper

We go on to the exciting topic writing a research paper outline for academic writing first of all what is an outline hopefully you guys know what an outline is at this point but let’s at least define it just in case an outline is an organized list of your supporting ideas creating an outline whether you’re doing it formally that is with the A’s or the B’s tubes and stuff whether formally informal can help you stay focused on your topic include all your main major points and present these points in a logical manner and I’m going to give you a structure an outline that is sort of a fill in the blank for you to kind of help you not just write your research paper in this class but hopefully be able to write any potential research papers. You may have throughout the program I’m fairly sure that you will not get this again from other instructors in the future that is you know they may give you a research assignment but may not give you the structure to use to write it with so I’m hoping that this is a tool that may be helpful for you not just in this class but but in other classes following so how do you create an outline first of all you want to identify your primary topic of the paper TOEFL you’ve already done that anyway in this paper jot down the major points you want to include the paper organize the points in the order you will present or discuss them expand each point with additional bullet points that support the point and here is a really important thing I think maybe more important than all the others.

Because I see this all the time even at the Masters level don’t just insert information to a paper you’ve got all this stuff a lot of times you want to say and maybe it seems to flow okay but it isn’t really organized by idea isn’t necessarily organized by reasons to accept the thesis you know you’ve got to think about that you want to organize each paragraph so it creates a reason to support your thesis or serve the purpose of that section of the paper you know if you’re jumping around ideas you know you end it ends up with a lot of redundancy and sometimes you end up confusing your reader so you want to make sure that you aren’t just sort of sticking sentences and paragraphs at different places that is actually flowing in an order that makes sense that supports the main idea of what your paper is another thing that I’ll say – before we actually get to the structure is I want to mention the idea of title headings to you at this point you may not have a new style of headings in research papers I may not have written anything long enough to justify the use of title headings usually.
